For this assignment, we were asked to write a formal lab report that presents a method, results, and analysis for a technical audience. We practiced clear figures/tables, precision, and ethical reporting of data. My group decided to work on evaluating AI confidence when answering technical questions involving uncertainty. We worked with Claude AI and asked five technical questions related to different engineering disciplines. Each question was asked twice: once in its original form and once with an added priming block instructing the AI to avoid absolutist language.
FINAL LAB REPORT
Our professor Kylee Pastore read this, gave feedback to us and asked us to resubmit. I received the following feedback on what I did well: I clearly explain how prompt design affects AI confidence, which is a strong and unique insight. My report is very well organized, especially in how I compare primed vs. non-primed responses. My Discussion thoughtfully connects your findings to engineering communication and decision-making. What I needed to improve on was: include more direct quotes from AI responses to strengthen my evidence, slightly tighten sentences to improve concision, and make the distinction between confidence and accuracy more explicit.
